DCo Thrives

Welcome!

DCo Thrives is an innovative effort to invest in Durham’s future by providing cash assistance to low-income families in Durham. DCo Thrives will provide no-strings-attached payments to 125 randomly selected individuals with a child under the age of 18 living with them on a full- or part-time basis for 12 months. We know that raising kids is expensive, and we also believe that Durham families are the experts on their own lives. As such, they know best how to use the money to support their families.

The recommendation for a Guaranteed Income pilot to support Durham’s children and their families first arose in the local Early Childhood Action Plan (ECAP) – Grown in Durham.  The recommendation for Guaranteed Income fell under the ECAP’s focus area of basic needs, and it is one strategy to help meet Recommendation 8 Economic Prosperity: To ensure families with young children have economic security and opportunities for long-term economic prosperity.
